The new standard data protection regulation has been applicable as law throughout Europe since 25 May 2018. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) entered into force in 2016 and must be applied in all member states from 25 May 2018 onwards. Its purpose is to strengthen the protection of personal data and to standardise this protection throughout the EU.
